From the very beginning, SKOOT has made a commitment to being carbon-negative, this means for every ride taken with SKOOT we commit 5p towards our carbon offset fund. So for every three rides we plant a tree on your behalf, and you'll receive notifications alongside this being able to see your forest grow. What’s even better is that if there are multiple people in the car all using SKOOT we will commit 5p per passenger to go towards offsetting your journey! That's a win-win for everyone.

SKOOT put a lot of research into deciding which tree planting organisation we were going to partner with. It was important to us to ensure that they had the same values as SKOOT, and genuinely cared about the well-being of the planet and the people on it. We decided that Eden Reforestation Project was the perfect partner for us. They are recognised as one of the most prolific forest restoration and tree planting organisations on the planet, and have received recognition for their transparency and integrity. This resonated with us because it is imperative that we work with a partner that actively plants the trees that they say they will and are upfront about how and where they do their work.

Eden really does make an incredible impact on the wellbeing of the planet and its inhabitants. They plant trees in 8 different countries and have planted over 583 million trees split between their 232 planting sites. Eden’s 8 sites are Nepal, Madagascar, Haiti, Indonesia, Mozambique, Kenya, and Central American with Ethiopia, Brazil, and the Philippines coming soon. The trees that they plant across these regions have an 80% success rate, which is an important figure for us because it helps us ensure that when we are planting trees for drives done, we can guarantee that people are driving 110% carbon-negative. It means that our SKOOTers get to drive guilt free.

But this isn't the only reason SKOOT wanted to work with Eden. Their forest restoration model is built around the simple concept of providing fair wage employment to impoverished villagers. So far Eden has created over 5 million workdays to ensure people can have a reliable income, while rebuilding the planet! This gives them a fair and consistent income so they can provide for their families. As the reforestation effort goes on, healthy forests begin to emerge, and all the harmful effects of deforestation begin to disappear.

SKOOT is proud to be the world's first carbon-negative lift-sharing app in the UK and hopefully soon all over the world! Now more than ever we need to make a change. Communities, companies and individuals need to come together to work towards reducing the amount of carbon that is produced but also working to offset the carbon that is. Planting trees is at the core of how SKOOT believes we can create a more sustainable world. Trees capture and store the carbon dioxide (CO2) that causes climate change. They absorb CO2 during photosynthesis and release oxygen (O2). A mature tree absorbs carbon at a rate of 48 pounds per year. In one year, an acre of forest can the CO2 produced by the average car's annual mileage - which is awesome!

To date, SKOOT has planted 290,000 trees and we have big trees to plant many more. If you want to join us on our journey to creating cleaner, greener skies for all, download the SKOOT app and start driving carbon negatively today.
